Anonymous's Backstory

Anonymous is a group of hacktivists that use their knowledge and skills with a computer to raise awareness of certain problems that otherwise may bever be known. They first started in the early 2000s. Many of the early hackers met on a website called fchan where people from all across the world would just talk and argue. But these initial members were better and more intelligent than the average user. They wanted to use this knowledge as a means of playing pranks on various people/websites. But as time progressed they got, smarter, more hackers, better skills at hacking and their ambitions grew to a level unmatched at the time. They launched their first major hack in 2008 against the Church of Scientology aka Project Chanology. Since then they have gone after numerous companies, websites, and countries for a multitude of reasons. They have released secret government and military documents that have both helped the US and incriminated it. This has caused some people to label Anonymous as activists while others call them terrorists. They have also taken it upon themselves to end as many websites containing child pornography as possible and have take down hundreds of these sites already. In one of their more recent exploits they went after a small town that was trying to cover up a rape case. In August of 2012 in Steubenville, Ohio, several teens rapped a teen girl who was passed out due to intoxication. The teen boys who did the deed were the star players on the local football team. Because of their skills on the field the locals wanted to keep the incident as quiet as possible. They were going to get low sentences if no sentences at all. When Anonymous heard about this situation, they did what they do best. They unearthed all the evidence that the culprits had left behind and the local authorities paid no attention to. Because of this effort, the culprits were indicted and convicted guilty of their crimes. I personally have changed the way I view things and act when I am out in order to prevent any event even remotely similar to this from ever occuring.
